The Warranty Terms

Every current Carrier furnace — entry-level 80% AFUE through the flagship 59MN7 — carries the same core warranty: 5 years base parts, 20 years base heat exchanger, and 10 years parts plus lifetime heat exchanger when registered within 90 days of installation.

Labour coverage is not included. Unit replacement is not included.

The only meaningful variation is on the extended heat exchanger term. Most models offer lifetime coverage when registered; a smaller number (the 59SU5, 59SC2, 58TP0, 58TP1, and most 80% AFUE single-stage models) cap extended heat exchanger coverage at 20 years with registration rather than lifetime. All other warranty terms remain identical across these models.

Registration Is Required

To unlock the extended coverage (10 years parts, lifetime or 20 years heat exchanger), the furnace must be registered on Carrier's owner portal within 90 days of installation. If that window is missed, coverage reverts to the base terms: 5 years parts and 20 years heat exchanger only.

The 90-day window is actually on the more forgiving end among major brands — Amana and Lennox both require registration within 60 days — but it's still easy to let slip if you don't take care of it promptly. Confirm with your installer at purchase that they've either registered the unit or given you the information to do it yourself.

Note for Quebec residents: Quebec consumer protection law prohibits conditioning warranty coverage on registration. You automatically receive the full extended warranty terms without needing to register — the registration deadline doesn't apply.

Warranty coverage is also non-transferable under most circumstances. If you sell your home, the next owner typically reverts to the base warranty terms.

How It Compares

Carrier's warranty is solid but not class-leading. Lennox offers a similar structure but includes a 10-year unit replacement on its flagship modulating models. Amana and Goodman both include lifetime unit replacement on their top-tier models plus 10-year parts and lifetime heat exchanger — the most generous structure in the industry at this price point.

Napoleon offers lifetime parts on some models with registration, which Carrier doesn't match.
