In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

Finally, to help you decide if you want to buy the Infinity 96 – 59TN6 instead of another Carrier furnace, we’ll also compare it to three other models from the brand.
About the Infinity 96 – 59TN6
Average Price (installed): $6,000 to $6,600
Top Features
- Two-stage burner is more fuel efficient than a single-stage one
- Powerful variable-speed blower can control humidity in winter and summer
- Delivers consistent temperatures and helps to reduce hot and cold spots
- Secondary heat exchanger promises efficient performance, less fuel waste, and reduced heat loss
- Reliable and fuel-conserving hot surface igniter
- High-efficiency AFUE and ENERGY STAR® certification
- High rebate eligibility
The Bottom Line
Thanks to the two-stage burner, the Infinity 96 – 59TN6 can operate at a lower speed most of the time to conserve energy and maintain your home’s temperature. When the mercury drops at night or during a cold snap, the furnace will use the higher stage to keep your family warm and comfortable.
If you are looking for a high-performance, energy-efficient furnace in the premium range, then the Infinity 96 – 59TN6 from Carrier might be a good choice.
Carrier furnaces in the Infinity tier are expensive. Even though this is a two-stage model, it still falls into a higher price range than some comparable models from the brand’s competitors. But if you're comfortable paying more for a furnace, then you'll get superior quality and quiet functioning from the Infinity 96 – 59TN6.

Features Overview
The Infinity 96 – 59TN6 has several noise-reducing features, including the variable-speed capacity, ECM blower, insulated cabinet, and sealed combustion system, that result in very quiet operation.
It also has a feature called ComfortFan technology that allows a wide variety of fan-speed levels when the furnace is in the Constant ON mode. However, you do have to control the furnace with a smart thermostat like the Infinity system control to get access to this feature.
And if you pair this Carrier gas furnace with the Infinity control, an outdoor unit, and a humidifier, then you get access to the Ideal Humidity System for year-round humidity management.
Other Carrier features this model is compatible with include Hybrid Heat, which gives the furnace a dual fuel function when paired with the right thermostat and heat pump, and SmartEvap, which can help manage summer humidity.
Other Key Features

Warranty Information
Most Carrier furnace models have the same warranty, and that includes the Infinity 96. It has a lifetime heat exchanger warranty and a 10-year limited parts warranty. However, if warranty is important to you, then be sure to register the unit within 90 days of installation.
Unregistered units are still covered, but the warranty terms decrease: the heat exchanger will only be covered for 20 years and parts will only be covered for five.
Similarly, be sure to have the unit installed by a licensed HVAC professional, otherwise you risk voiding the warranty right off the bat.
Comparable Models by Carrier
Model Comparison by Price: 59TN6 versus Comfort 92 – 59SC2
The installed price of the Comfort 92 – 59SC2 is around $3,800 to $4,800, so you could save a great deal of money by opting for the entry-level model.
At the same time, there are reasons you might not want to do that, including that the Infinity 96 – 59TN6 is a superior furnace with better efficiency, quieter operation, and better humidity management.
The Comfort 92 is only a single-stage furnace with an AFUE of 92.1 percent. In 2019, the Canadian government passed a new efficiency minimum of 95 percent for furnaces, so this model isn't really considered high-efficiency anymore.
You may not even be able to buy this furnace in Canada, and if you can, it will typically only be suitable for small homes in milder parts of the country.
Model Comparison by Features: 59TN6 versus Comfort 95 - 59SC5
One of the main questions you probably want answered is “are carrier furnaces good?” The short answer is yes, but they're also pricey. When you want the prestige of the Carrier name without a huge price tag, then something like the Comfort 95 - 59SC5 will likely be your best bet.
It’s an entry-level model, so it’s not as sophisticated as the Infinity 96 and doesn’t have the same bells and whistles, but it will cost less and will save you a comparable amount on energy bills.
The Comfort 95 is a single-stage furnace with a multi-speed ECM blower motor, an AFUE of 96.5 percent, and ENERGY STAR certification.
It will perform best in smaller spaces or milder parts of the country because of the single-stage operation, but if this furnace is right for your home, then it will keep you warm in the winter while reducing heating bills.
Model Comparison by Tier: 59TN6 versus Infinity 98 with Greenspeed® Intelligence – 59MN7
Another premium furnace from Carrier is their top-of-the-line Infinity® 98 – 59MN7, which is compatible with the brand’s special Greenspeed Intelligence technology when you pair the furnace with their Infinity Control.
Not only is the Infinity 98 – 59MN7 the only one of Carrier’s furnaces that’s compatible with Greenspeed Intelligence, but it’s also their only modulating furnace and the one with the highest efficiency: 98.5 percent AFUE.
The modulating operation means the furnace can make incremental adjustments to the heating output. It will run most of the time in very low stages to maintain an ideal and consistent temperature throughout the house without wasting energy.
If you have a healthy budget for a furnace upgrade and want excellent performance in terms of comfort, energy-efficiency, and long-term value, then the Infinity 98 – 59MN7 is an excellent option.
