In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

Comparable Models by American Standard
Model comparison by features – American Standard 92 vs American Standard Platinum 95
To get the most out of American Standard’s features on their furnaces you have to jump up several tiers to the American Standard Platinum 95. Although more expensive, you purchase a furnace that features AccuLink communicating capability with a user interface. AccuLink means your furnace can communicate with comfort control and allows you to monitor the unit remotely. The unit can also send diagnostic data back to American Standard if a fault is detected. You also get a variable-speed ECM blower motor with Comfort-R technology, which operates at a lower, more efficient speed and allows for more control over the humidity during cooling.
Model comparison by mid-tier – American Standard 92 vs American Standard Silver 95 Furnace
Although the American Standard 92 and the American Standard Silver 95 Furnace are similar in many ways, the step up comes in the form of the Silver 95’s 95% AFUE rating. This means that with the Silver 95 Furnace, 95 cents out of every dollar go towards heating your home, virtually eliminating wasted energy as opposed to the American Standard 92’s 92 cents out of every dollar. If you are looking to invest in a model that is even more efficient, the American Standard Silver 95 Furnace is the way to go.
Model comparison by premium tier – American Standard 92 vs American Standard Gold 95
One of the significant changes, when you move up to the American Standard Gold 95, is the variable-speed induced draft venting. This means that the speed blower motor will run at different speeds to control the flow of air throughout your home. This allows better control and balance over the temperature and humidity in your home. In addition to this, the unit boasts an impressive 96% AFUE, meaning you are returning 96 cents of energy on every dollar spent.
