In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

Keeprite’s N4A4**C Performance 14 is a single-stage air conditioner with a SEER of 14, and it has special design elements to protect the unit from the salt and pollutants found in the air in coastal regions.
This air conditioner might not be right for every home, and this N4A4**C Performance 14 model review will help you decide if it’s a good fit for yours.
The review will cover the important design features of the N4A4**C, talk about its efficiency and warranty terms, and compare it to three other Keeprite air conditioners so you can see how it’s similar to and different from the brand’s other models.
The Keeprite N4A4**C Performance 14 Coastal Design in a Nutshell
Average Price (with installation): $3,000 to $4,500
Top Features
- Equipped with a single-speed fan
- Has a scroll compressor that’s quieter and more efficient than standard compressors
- Can be controlled with most thermostats
- Uses an R-410A refrigerant that doesn’t deplete the ozone layer
The Bottom Line
The N4A4**C isn't the most sophisticated or efficient air conditioner on the market, but if you live in a coastal region, then this might be the perfect cooling system for your home.
This model has been specially designed with additional protective elements so that it can combat the corrosion caused by salt and other airborne pollutants that are unique to coastal regions.
Just be aware that this is a single-stage air conditioner with a single-stage fan, so it’s the most basic type of cooling system on the market. It also has a lower SEER of 14, so it may not be powerful enough to cool certain homes.
Finally, because this model lacks a high-efficiency SEER rating and ENERGY STAR® certification, it’s possible it might not qualify for some rebates, in case you were hoping to save money that way.

Features Overview
The main features that set this air conditioner apart from some others on the market are the additional elements it has to make the unit more durable in coastal environments.
For one thing, it has been built to withstand inclement weather and debris, such as falling leaves, twigs, or even toys getting thrown around in the yard.
Furthermore, the fins are made of galvanized steel and epoxy-phenolic that’s coated with a full-coverage powder paint to resist corrosion.
The unit also has a filter drier that removes moisture and acid from the system, as these things could damage important internal components.
Other Key Features
- Equipped with corrosion-resistant components
- Built for long-lasting operation

Warranty Information
The N4A4**C is only backed by an industry-standard 10-year parts warranty, and that includes major components like the compressor.
Unlike Keeprite’s premium-tier air conditioners, this model doesn’t come with a separate unit replacement warranty that gives you additional protection against compressor failure.
Just make sure you register the unit within 90 days of installation. Unregistered models will only come with Keeprite’s unregistered base warranty, which is a five-year parts warranty.
Registration is simple and fast, and you can complete the process online in just a few minutes.
Comparable Models by Keeprite
Model Comparison by Price: N4A4**C versus N4A7 Performance 17
The N4A7 Performance 17 is in the same value tier as the N4A4**C, but it will fall into a slightly higher price range. On average, this model costs Canadians between $3,500 and $5,500 to buy and install.
There are some good reasons for the N4A7’s higher price point, including the fact that it has a more powerful and more efficient two-stage compressor. The two-stage compressor means the unit can run for longer periods at a lower speed to maintain the temperature of your house, all while costing less to operate.
Air conditioners like this also promise quieter operation, better humidity management, and fewer hot/cold spots around the house.
The N4A7 hasn’t been specially designed for coastal regions, but it does have some of the same features for corrosion-resistance and durability.
Another thing it has is ENERGY STAR certification and a high-efficiency SEER of 17, so it’s going to save you more on cooling bills and could be eligible for more rebates.
Model Comparison by Features: N4A4**C versus CVA9 Ion™ 19
The CVA9 Ion 19 is Keeprite’s best air conditioner. It’s their priciest, most sophisticated, and most efficient model, so it’s going to cost quite a bit more than the N4A4**C.
For the additional money, you get a variable-speed air conditioner that can make incremental adjustments to the cooling output. This is going to save you more money and translate to quieter operation, improved humidity management, and a consistent temperature around the house.
The Ion model has an ENERGY STAR qualifying SEER of 19. Although it might be a little more powerful than most Canadians need to keep comfortable in the summer, this model will drastically cut energy bills and could be eligible for cost-saving rebates.
The premium-tier model also boasts quieter operation, and the sound level it makes is as low as 56 decibels.
Finally, the CVA9 comes with an additional unit replacement warranty, so if something happens to the compressor, then Keeprite will replace the entire air conditioner.
Model Comparison by Tier: N4A4**C versus N4A3 Performance 13
The N4A3 Performance 13 is Keeprite’s most basic and most affordable air conditioner. It’s very similar to the N4A4**C in many ways, but there are a few differences.
For one thing, the N4A3 hasn’t been specially designed for coastal regions, so it doesn’t have the additional design elements to combat corrosion the way the coastal model does.
The N4A3 also has an even lower 13 SEER, so while it will cost less to buy, it’s going to save you a little less on energy bills over the years. This model likely won’t qualify for a lot of rebates either.
Just be careful with standard-efficiency air conditioners like these because the lower SEER rating and single-stage compressor mean both of these units might perform best in spaces with lower cooling demands, such as smaller homes or houses in milder parts of Canada.
