In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

The N4A3 Performance 13 is an affordable air conditioner with a standard efficiency rating, so it could be good for some Canadian customers on a budget. It is modest in terms of advanced features, but it does the job when it comes to eliminating heat from smaller homes.
This air conditioner won’t be right for every house, and this N4A3 Performance 13 model review will help you decide if it will be a good fit for yours.
Along with comparing the Performance 13 to three other KeepRite air conditioners, the model review will also cover information about its price, key features, warranty details, efficiency, and design elements.
In a Nutshell
Average Price (with installation): $3000 - $4500
Top Features
- Industry-standard warranty
- Compatible with many types of thermostats
- Uses an R-410A refrigerant that doesn’t deplete the ozone layer
- One of the more economical air conditioners on the market
- Standard dehumidification
- Standard-efficiency SEER
- Has a more advanced scroll compressor
- Designed for easy maintenance
The Bottom Line
The Performance 13 is one of the more affordable air conditioners on the market because it only offers standard efficiency, and it’s not going to save you as much on energy bills compared to a high-efficiency A/C.
With a single-stage compressor and SEER of 13, this model is going to perform best in homes with lower cooling demands. That could include smaller spaces or houses in more temperate parts of Canada that don’t experience periods of high humidity or extended heat waves.
The model also lacks ENERGY STAR certification, so there might be a few rebates it doesn’t qualify for.
Nonetheless, the Performance 13 does have a scroll compressor that’s quieter and more efficient than standard compressors. It also has a special top-down design that improves airflow across the coil and reduces operational noise.

Features Overview
KeepRite hasn’t really developed any novel features or technologies, and their value-tier air conditioners are quite basic in terms of function and operation. They’ve been designed to keep homes cool and don’t have any additional bells and whistles.
However, this model has been designed to last, so you won’t feel like you’re compromising quality for price.
To guarantee the longevity of the N4A3, KeepRite has equipped it with components like protective inlet grille panels that allow easier access to clean the coils, an efficient filter drier that removes harmful moisture from the system, and a baked-on powder coat finish that protects the heavy-duty cabinet.

Warranty Information
The Performance 13 is backed by an industry-standard 10-year parts warranty. However, to be eligible for the full 10 years, you'll have to register the air conditioner within 90 days of installation. Unregistered models will only be protected by a five-year parts warranty.
Registration is easy and well worth the few minutes it’ll take. You'll just have to provide KeepRite with your contact information, details about the licensed HVAC installer, the serial and model number of the A/C, and the installation date.
If warranty protection is a concern for you, then you might want to look at KeepRite’s premium-tier air conditioners. All of these come with a No Hassle Replacement warranty on top of the standard 10-year parts warranty.
Comparable Models by KeepRite
Model Comparison by Price: N4A3 Performance 13 versus CVA9 Ion 19
The Performance 13 is the cheapest central air conditioner offered by KeepRite. When compared to a premium-grade model like the CVA9 Ion 19, you’ll notice a stark difference in terms of price. In general, the Ion 19 costs $4,500 to $5,500+ to buy and install in Canada.
The price difference is because the Performance 13 has a considerably lower SEER rating than the Ion 19, which has a high-efficiency SEER of 19. The Performance model won’t save as much on energy costs in the long-run, and it probably won’t be eligible for many of the rebates that the Ion model qualifies for.
There are other important differences between the two models, including that the Ion 19 has a much more advanced variable-speed compressor that can operate at five different speeds. This produces more consistent cooling, fewer hot/cold spots, better dehumidification, increased efficiency, and quieter operation. Plus, the Ion model will be powerful enough to cool any home in Canada.
Further, the Ion 19 has a No Hassle Replacement warranty on top of the parts warranty, it’s much quieter, and it’s compatible with KeepRite’s Ion System Control smart thermostat, which can unlock some great features.
Model Comparison by Features: N4A3 Performance 13 versus CCA7 Ion 17
The CCA7 Ion 17 is another premium-tier air conditioner from KeepRite, and it’s also more advanced than the Performance model.
The Ion 17 is a two-stage air conditioner, so while it’s not as advanced as the Ion 19, it’s still more powerful, more capable, and more efficient than the Performance 13.
Thanks to the superior compressor and more efficient two-speed blower motor, the Ion 17 has a SEER of 17 and ENERGY STAR certification.
It will cost more than the Performance model, but it will save you more on cooling bills, could be eligible for rebates, and should be capable of keeping any home comfortable, no matter what the summer throws at you.
There are other advantages to the Ion model, including an additional unit replacement warranty, extra features for quieter operation, and compatibility with the Ion System Control.
Model Comparison by Tier: N4A3 Performance 13 versus N4A6 Performance 16
The N4A6 Performance 16 is in the same value tier as the Performance 13, and while it’s still a single-stage air conditioner, it’s more powerful and more efficient than the Performance 13.
The Performance 16 has a SEER of 17, which means it falls into the 16 to 18 SEER range that’s usually perfect for managing Canadian summers. Air conditioners in this SEER range typically offer the best balance between efficiency, purchase price, and long-term energy savings.
Another thing that’s great about the Performance 16 is that it has ENERGY STAR certification. Not only is this a guarantee of the model’s efficiency and performance, but it can also increase rebate eligibility. Rebates for the Performance 16 could equalize the price of the two units, making the more efficient model a much better choice because it will also produce larger long-term savings.
