In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

In-Depth Review
Napoleon 9600E Product Specifications

- Burner type: Two-stage
- Blower type: Multi-speed ECM
- ENERGY STAR certified: Yes
- Heating capacity: 38,000 to 77,000 BTUs
Features Overview
One of the things that’s unique about Napoleon furnaces is the heat exchanger with the vortex turbulator. This is a device that disrupts the natural flow of the air inside, giving the heat exchanger more time to extract additional heat from the flue gasses, making this more like a condensing furnace that has a secondary heat exchanger.
The 9600E also comes with the option of adding the patented SureView burner system window. This window affords a view of the flames when the system is switched on.
As for the Whisper Quiet features that ensure quiet operation, these include a sealed blower compartment, a motor with gradual speed changes, the two-stage burner (the low-fire stage is quieter than full blast), and a thermally insulated heat exchanger compartment.
Finally, Napoleon has made cleaning, maintenance, and parts replacements easier than ever by equipping the 9600E with a modular burner compartment and heat exchanger, meaning these two components can be easily accessed and removed.

Warranty Information
The 9600E Series gas furnace comes with a lifetime heat exchanger limited warranty. There’s also a 10-year unit replacement warranty and a 10-year warranty on parts.
With the unit replacement warranty, Napoleon will replace the entire furnace if the heat exchanger fails during the coverage period.
This is one of the best warranties in the industry, and it means that Napoleon stands behind their product.
To be eligible for the full warranty, you will have to register the 9600E within 60 days of installation. Failure to do so will result in you losing out on some of the protection.
And to keep the warranty valid, you'll have to take care of regular annual maintenance and have the furnace installed by a licensed HVAC professional.
Comparable Models by Napoleon
Model Comparison by Price: 9600E versus 9700
Napoleon’s 9700 has an AFUE of 97 percent, and that puts it in a slightly higher price range, averaging between $5,000 and $6,000 with installation.
The 9700’s AFUE means that $0.97 of every dollar you spend on furnace bills will be converted to heat. This model also has a superior variable-speed blower, which can make incremental changes to the airflow.
This premier model from Napoleon comes standard with the SureView Burner Window, and it has the brand’s Clean Air Technology chemical-free germicidal UV lamp to purify the air in your home.
Beyond that, the 9700 has all the same great features as the 9600E, including the modular components, Whisper Quiet operation, the vortex turbulator heat exchanger, and the same great warranty terms.
Surprisingly, however, the 9700 lacks ENERGY STAR certification, which could mean it might not qualify for the same rebates as the 9600E.
Model Comparison by Features: 9600E versus 9500
The 9500 isn't as sophisticated as the 9600E, but it still falls into the same price range, so let’s talk about what features you might miss out on with the slightly more affordable model.
One of the most crucial differences is that the 9500 has a single-stage burner and lacks ENERGY STAR certification, and this means it might not be powerful enough to heat larger homes in colder parts of the country.
It also has a marginally lower 95 percent AFUE, so you’ll save a little less on winter heating bills each year.
The 9500 also doesn’t have the option for the SureView window if that’s something that interests you.
Aside from those differences, however, the 9500 has the same features as the 9600E, including a multi-speed blower, modular blower and heat exchanger, the vortex turbulator, and Whisper Quiet features.
Model Comparison by Tier: 9600E versus 9600
The 9600E and 9600 are similar in many regards, but there are a couple of key differences.
They have the same 96 percent AFUE, two-stage operation, and all the other features that make Napoleon furnaces unique.
However, the 9600 has a more powerful variable-speed blower, and yet it lacks ENERGY STAR certification.
But it does come standard with the SureView window, and you have the option of adding Napoleon’s germicidal UV lamp to the cabinet.
