In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

- Induced draft combustion motor
By using a blower to pull air into the burner and through the combustion chamber and heat exchanger, the induced draft combustion motor helps to vent your furnace during start-up. This cleans out any gases that were left behind during the furnace’s previous cycle, allowing for cleaner air during combustion.
Sound-Reducing Features
The N9MSE features a soft-mounted blower and inducer motor which helps to reduce the decibel level while the furnace is running.
RPJ (Rigid Press Joint) Primary Heat Exchanger
The RPJ primary heat exchanger is designed in a way that moves more heat to the outside surface for an improved heat transfer. The RPJ is also constructed with stainless steel which helps the heat exchanger fight corrosion and adds durability to the unit.
Other Key Features
- Single-stage gas valve
- Direct spark gas ignition
- Dual fuel capable with a compatible heat pump and thermostat
Warranty
The N9MSE features a 20-year heat exchanger limited warranty as well as a 10-year parts limited warranty. Make sure that you register your unit promptly though, as the manufacturer will cut the 10-year parts limited warranty to 5 years if the unit isn't registered within the first 90 days of purchase.
Comparable Models by KeepRite
Model comparison by lower price – KeepRite Performance Series N9MSE versus KeepRite Performance Series N9MSB
Another model in KeepRite’s Performance Series, the N9MSB is similar to the N9MSE but features a lower AFUE rating. Whereas the N9MSE features a rating of 95%, which is very impressive for a “lower-tier” model, the N9MSB features an AFUE of 92.1%. This means that for a lower up-front cost, you would be losing around 3 cents in every dollar in wasted energy by opting for the cheaper N9MSB. This comparison comes down to a personal consideration of up-front cost versus long-term value, but for many people, paying a little extra for the 95% AFUE rated N9MSE would be worth it in the long term.
Model Comparison by features – KeepRite Performance Series N9MSE versus KeepRite Deluxe Series G9MVE
The KeepRite ProComfort Deluxe Series G9MVE has two distinct advantages over the N9MSE. Although their AFUE ratings are similar at 95-96% and 95% respectively, the G9MVE features a two-stage gas valve that offers a more measured and even heating of your home. Also, the G9MVE offers a host of technological features such as the Observer Communicating Wall Control with WI-FI capability.
Model comparison by Premium Tier – KeepRite Performance Series N9MSE versus KeepRite ProComfort Deluxe Series G9MAE
The premium-tier offering from KeepRite is the G9MAE. A modulating gas furnace coupled with Rigid Press Joint Heat exchangers, the G9MAE offers efficiency rated at 97-98%. This is an improvement on the N9MSE’s 95%. The G9MAE also offers a host of other features, such as the ION System Control, which is able to control temperature, humidity, ventilation and indoor air quality. Expect to pay a fair bit more for the ENERGY STAR qualified G9MAE.
