Model Comparison by Price: Goodman GSXC16 versus Goodman GSX14

One of the more affordable air conditioners that Goodman has is the GSX14, and the average price range on this model is closer to $3,500 to $4,500.

The lower price also means some compromises, including a lower SEER rating of 15, a less powerful single-stage compressor and fan, and none of the additional technologies to help you easily control, monitor, and diagnose your cooling system.

Finally, the GSX14 doesn’t have a lifetime compressor warranty, and the unit replacement warranty is only valid for two years.

Here's something else to keep in mind: the GSX14 has a lower SEER and no ENERGY STAR certification, and that could mean it’s not eligible for the same rebates as the GSXC16. If budget is an issue, then those rebates could enable you to get a more powerful and more efficient air conditioner that will save you more on cooling bills and improve indoor comfort.

Model Comparison by Features: Goodman GSXC16 versus Goodman GSX16

The next unit down in the Goodman line is the GSX16, which is a mid-range offering from Goodman, meaning it’s more affordable but not as advanced.

It has a SEER rating of 16, but it only has a single-stage compressor and single-stage fan, so it’s not as efficient in terms of energy savings or operation. Further, single-stage air conditioners aren't as good at operating quietly, at maintaining a consistent temperature throughout the house, or at eliminating indoor moisture.

While this unit is built to be just as durable as the GSXC16, it’s not equipped with the same technologies, such as the CoolCloud HVAC app, the communicating capability, or the diagnostic systems.

Finally, the GSXC16 only has an industry-standard warranty because it doesn’t have a lifetime compressor warranty, and the unit replacement warranty is only for two years. 

Model Comparison by Tier: Goodman GSXC16 versus Goodman GSXC18

There are a couple of air conditioners in the Goodman line that are more advanced than the GSXC16, and the GSXC18 is one of them. These units are nearly identical in terms of technology, features, warranty, and specifications. They’ll also be similar in price, though the GSXC18 will cost more.

There are a couple of differences between the models, and one is the fan motor: the GSXC16 has a two-stage PSC fan while the GSXC18 has a two-stage ECM fan. Another difference is the SEER, which will also impact the price. The GSXC18 has a higher SEER rating of 19—meaning you might save slightly more on energy bills.

It’s worthwhile noting, however, that the ideal SEER range for most of Canada is between 16 and 18. Anything beyond that is generally designed for hotter climates, and you might not actually see that much difference between your cooling bills with the GSXC16 versus the GSXC18. In other words, the slightly higher SEER of the GSXC18 may not justify the higher purchase price.
