In order to help homeowners shop for furnaces and air conditioners, we developed our own proprietary algorithms which weigh a range of criteria and factors to provide an easy-to-compare grade (e.g. B-, A+, etc).
Warranty Grade: It can be difficult to know which brands and models offer the best warranty coverage, particularly because a lot of the key details are hidden in dense warranty documents filled with hard to understand legalese. Thankfully for you, we’ve carefully studied them and created this grading system to account for things like the length AND quality of their guarantee, coverage restrictions and more!
Overall Grade: This grade weighs key factors like efficiency, ENERGY STAR certification, comfort, noise level (for A/Cs), our warranty grade, and more.

If you’re looking for an affordable air conditioner that does the job and reduces energy costs, then the N4A6 Performance 16 is the right place to look. Belonging to KeepRite’s most budget-friendly value tier, the N4A6 central air conditioner has an impressive SEER rating of up to 17, which is difficult to come by at such a low cost.
This model review of KeepRite’s N4A6 Performance 16 air conditioner will talk about its pricing, main features, design elements, efficiency rating, and warranty coverage. It will also compare the Performance 16 to three other KeepRite models based on tier, price, and features.
By the end, you'll have a pretty good idea of whether this model is right for your home and your budget.
In a Nutshell
Average Price (with installation): $3500 - $5500
Top Features
- Outer design is built to resist extreme weather conditions
- Protected by an industry-standard warranty
- Offers moderately quiet performance
- Made with durable components for lasting operation
- Has a number of design elements to increase longevity
The Bottom Line
The Performance Series N4A6 central air conditioner is ideal for consumers on a budget. Although it has a more basic single-stage compressor and single-speed fan, it still has an ENERGY STAR® qualifying high-efficiency SEER of 17.
In other words, it doesn’t promise the most advanced performance, but it will keep your home cool and will cut energy costs compared to an older and less efficient air conditioner.
One of the design elements that helps the efficiency of this A/C is the scroll compressor. It has fewer moving parts than a traditional compressor, so it works more efficiently and quietly, and will probably have fewer maintenance issues.

Warranty Information
Making a significant investment can be difficult if you are not backed up by a warranty package. KeepRite has backed the Performance 16 with a 10-year parts limited warranty.
This is industry-standard coverage, but you will have to register the air conditioner within 90 days of installation to be eligible for it. Otherwise, the Performance 16 will only have a five-year parts warranty.
To register, you'll have to provide KeepRite with a few details about yourself, the licensed HVAC installer, the installation date, and the serial and model number.
Comparable Models by KeepRite
Model Comparison by Price: N4A6 Performance 16 versus CVA9 Ion 19
Where pricing is concerned, the N4A6 Performance 16 is at the lower end of the spectrum. It comes at a much lower cost than a model like the CVA9 Ion 19, which costs an average of $4,500 to $5,500+ in Canada.
The reason is the Performance model does not offer the same frills, efficiency, or technology. For starters, the Ion 19 is a variable-speed air conditioner that can operate at five different cooling outputs.
This produces more even temperatures, better moisture control, quieter operation, better efficiency, and fewer hot and cold spots around the house. The Ion 19 has a SEER rating of 19, so it will save plenty on energy bills, and it will be capable of cooling any home in Canada.
The Ion model also has a longer warranty that includes a 10-year No Hassle Replacement warranty, whereby KeepRite will replace the air conditioner if the coil or compressor fails.
Finally, the Ion 19 is compatible with KeepRite’s Ion System Control, a smart thermostat that has some great features to improve convenience, performance, and efficiency.
Model Comparison by Features: N4A6 Performance 16 versus CCA7 Ion 17
The CCA7 Ion 17 isn't as advanced as the Ion 19, but it is more powerful and sophisticated than the N4A6 Performance 16.
The Ion 17 is a two-stage air conditioner paired with a two-speed blower motor. That means there's a high and low cooling output. The low output is for temperature maintenance and energy savings. The high output is for those periods of high humidity or heat waves.
Despite the superior compressor and blower motor, the Ion 17 has the same 17 SEER as the Performance 16, so while it won’t save you any more on energy bills, it will deliver quieter and more consistent cooling. It will also be more capable at keeping larger homes comfortable.
Like the other premium-tier air conditioners from KeepRite, the Ion 17 comes with a No Hassle Replacement warranty on top of the parts warranty, and it’s compatible with the Ion System Control.
Model Comparison by Tier: N4A6 Performance 16 versus NH4A4 Performance 14
The NH4A4 Performance 14 is a less powerful air conditioner with a single-stage compressor, single-stage fan, and SEER of 14. Its efficiency rating is only standard to mid-range, so it won’t save you as much on energy bills, and it won’t be as capable of cooling larger homes.
Further, the lack of ENERGY STAR certification could reduce rebate eligibility, though the Performance 14 will be more affordable than the Performance 16.
So what's the draw of the Performance 14? It has been specifically designed for multi-family housing. It has a compact design that makes it able to fit in smaller spaces where a standard air conditioner wouldn’t fit. It’s also quieter, so it won’t bother you or your neighbours as much.
Although the Performance 14 won’t be right for all homes, it will be perfect for smaller spaces that have lower cooling demands and less real estate for large appliances like air conditioners.
